I was exploring the question, “How can I physicalize self-contempt with animal motifs and 3-D aspects?” Conceal is an expression of insecurity and the desire to keep one’s true self hidden from the world through the portrayal of an octopus as a large mask. I began this piece as a way to explore a new medium, papier-mache, and push my artistic ability.
