Exhaust

Medium: Wood canvas, cardboard, acrylic paint, oil paint

body- (16 in x 20 in)

head- (8 in x 10 in)

My goal with this piece was to portray extreme burnout while referencing the idiom “like a chicken with its head cut off.” The oil paint chicken spans two wooden canvases, hinging at the neck to depict a headless chicken when “open.” Additionally, when “open,” the human heart and brain are revealed. Ultimately, trying to put one’s best effort into something like school or work while experiencing extreme burnout, which is inevitable for most autistic people, is similar to a chicken trying to run with its head cut off.
