Liberty
Medium: Acrylic Paint on cardboard and canvas
(12 in x 12 in)
Liberty depicts freedom and its expressive joy. The hands in the background and the multiple sets of wings allude to the self-stimulating action of hand-flapping, often associated with autism.
I want to explore how to clearly express the inner workings of my mind while also including animal symbolism. My question for this work is mainly “how can I replicate the joy associated with excited stimming?” I, as I have in my other works, focused on painting as a base and built on to it using other materials, such as cardboard. I experimented by making a layered, semi-monochrome, acrylic piece, which pushed me out of my comfort.
